Fire Protection Coatings for FRP Composite Bridges
The challenge to ensure that FRP composites are adequately protected against fire events continues to stimulate new advances in coating technologies. In the absence of harmonised fire regulations across Europe for composite bridges, manufacturers are driven to select the most appropriate standard(s) available, to demonstrate sufficient protection. In this session, Finnester Coatings and FiberCore Europe will present details of a recent project to qualify a protective coating system over a standard composite bridge material, aiming to meet the B-classification requirements under EN 13501-1:2019 (EU standard for Construction Products).

Intelligent Reactive Polymer Production and Quality Control in the Mold
In the production of reactive polymer components, extended process times, high scrap rates, labor-intensive quality assurance and therefore high costs are often the result. sensXPERT shifts quality control into the mold to increase efficiency and enables direct feedback of the material to reduce scrap parts.
Sensors integrated in the mold measure the properties of the material during the manufacturing process. Real-time data from the process environment are combined with fundamentals of material science and artificial intelligence to predict optimal curing of the components. The innovative software dynamically adapts the process to real conditions and transforms the need for subsequent quality control to a minimum.

Class “A” Automotive Surfaces: State of The Art and Alternatives
Fiber print-through effect is a limitation to the use of carbon fiber-reinforced composites to satisfy  'Class A’ surfaces Automotive standard. In this paper, a comparison of actual and future body paint configurations will be performed expecially in order to reduce fiber print-through of the materials after prolonged exposure to accelerated aging tests. The proposed methods include: -evaluation of the epoxy matrix -evaluation of  fiber layers -Influence of layup and production parameters. Conclusions includes a comparison and advantages of alternative configurations compared to a current validated plybook.

“Spearheading Composites as Sustainable Materials” EuCIA actions for Life Cycle Assessments and Recycling
Representing a large part of the European Composites industry, EuCIA has been actively involved in two major areas.
In order to allow composite component manufacturers and key stakeholders to create a cradle-to-gate Eco Footprint, the Eco Calculator tool has been developed. The tool provides a reliable and credible calculation of the ecological impact of composites parts. Both the underlying data and method for data processing are consistent and transparent, complying with international standards and guidelines.
In addition, EuCIA has taken the lead to define the size of composite end-of-life waste streams per market segment and to make an inventory of applicable legislation around Europe. Establishing a collaboration with key industry associations (including WindEurope), EuCIA is actively contributing to the development and proliferation of composite waste recycling technologies, and the creation of associated communication tools.
During the presentation the latest updates in these fields and the outlook for the coming years will be shared.
