“Spearheading Composites as Sustainable Materials” EuCIA actions for Life Cycle Assessments and Recycling
Representing a large part of the European Composites industry, EuCIA has been actively involved in two major areas.
In order to allow composite component manufacturers and key stakeholders to create a cradle-to-gate Eco Footprint, the Eco Calculator tool has been developed. The tool provides a reliable and credible calculation of the ecological impact of composites parts. Both the underlying data and method for data processing are consistent and transparent, complying with international standards and guidelines.
In addition, EuCIA has taken the lead to define the size of composite end-of-life waste streams per market segment and to make an inventory of applicable legislation around Europe. Establishing a collaboration with key industry associations (including WindEurope), EuCIA is actively contributing to the development and proliferation of composite waste recycling technologies, and the creation of associated communication tools.
During the presentation the latest updates in these fields and the outlook for the coming years will be shared.

ADC.Bushings, an alternative bushing concept for metal inserts in GFRP
ADC.Bushing is an innovative and new development in the field of bushing concepts for rotor blades of wind turbines.
The force transmission between rotor blade and metal insert has been completely redeveloped. In contrast to other bushing-concepts, the ADC.Bushings are embedded in a matrix. This matrix eliminates stress peaks at the end of the metal inserts. This allows higher forces to be transmitted by the bonding.
The system combines the simplicity and low-accuracy layup process of a T-Bolt connection with the narrow packing and high force ability of a bushing connection. This enables OEMs to manufacture easily and cost-effectively with the potential of a high vertical integration.
The blade root bending moment can be increased by 30% with the same BCD. The mass of the blade connection is reduced by 30% at the same time.
The presentation describes the technical details and introduces the advantages of ADC.Bushings.
