Gearóid CLANCY

University of Limerick
PhD Student
I am proud to say that I am from Limerick, a city in the west of Ireland. I completed my Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Limerick in 2013.
My first job after university was a research assistant at the Irish Composites Centre, where I gained a big interest in composite materials.
After two years at the Irish Composites Centre I left to pursue a career in the energy sector. I really liked my job working in power stations but always felt I preferred my work with composites. So after 18 months I decided to return to the University of Limerick to complete a PhD in composite materials under the supervision of Prof. Paul Weaver. Highlights so far include winning AIAA structures best paper award 2019 at AIAA SciTech, also filing a patent related to an innovative manufacturing method.
Outside of composites I have a big interest in carpentry and welding, as well as sports such as soccer and skiing.
